Q&A

What is Wayside Center?

Wayside is a daytime intervention facility for the homeless. During the day we teach the Bible and various life skills, serve meals, and provide counseling, showers, lockers, phones, internet, and an address to receive mail.

Description of Trip:

Beginning in New York in early June, Jeremy and his Dad will travel south on the Appalachian Trail for 50 days. Their plan is to travel at least 350 miles to the border of Virginia. They will be camping outside along the trail.

Purpose of Trip:

Jeremy is using this trip as an opportunity to raise funds for the poor, particularly children and families impacted by homelessness.

Who is Going:

Jeremy and his dad will travel together. Others are invited to hike with them along the trail.

How does this trip help the homeless?

There are many children who are not homeless, but are separated from their families because their parents are. Often the children live with grandparents, aunts or uncles, or in foster care. The goal of Wayside is to see lives transformed by the saving power of Jesus Christ. Usually the first concern when a mother gets her life turned around is her children. We want to help these moms get off the streets and into situations where they can safely be reunited with their families. All funds raised will be used for programs for these parents and transitional housing.

Dates of the trip:

Early June thru early August.

Number of Days:

50 days

Number of Miles:

At least 350 miles

How many miles per day:

Unless the terrain is pretty rugged, we hope to get to a place where we are traveling at least 10 miles per day.

How can people get involved?

Pray, sponsor Jeremy per mile or per day, or join us for part of the hike. Many churches have Penny drives during Vacation Bible School and Jeremy’s Hike for the Homeless would be a good project for children to get behind.
